UK product compliance and labelling for international brands
Last reviewed: 13 October 2026
To sell in Great Britain, your products must meet UK safety law, carry the right conformity marking where one applies (UKCA, or CE for most product types), and have UK-compliant labelling, including a UK contact where required. Lantara reviews your products and labels against the rules for your category, checks or builds the technical documentation, and keeps it current as the rules change.
Which rules apply to your products?
| Category | Main rules in Great Britain | Regulator |
|---|---|---|
| General consumer products | General Product Safety Regulations 2005 | OPSS, Trading Standards |
| Electricals | Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016. UKCA or CE marking. | OPSS, Trading Standards |
| Toys | Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011. UKCA or CE marking. | OPSS, Trading Standards |
| Cosmetics | UK Cosmetics Regulation. UK Responsible Person and OPSS notification. | OPSS, Trading Standards |
| Food supplements | Food Supplements (England) Regulations 2003 and food labelling law | FSA, local authorities |
| Class I medical devices | Medical Devices Regulations 2002. MHRA registration. | MHRA |
Scotland and Wales have their own versions of some food rules, and Northern Ireland follows EU product rules under the Windsor Framework. We tell you exactly which apply.
UKCA or CE marking?
Great Britain continues to recognise CE marking for most product types alongside the UKCA marking, under the Product Safety and Metrology (Amendment) Regulations 2024, with no end date set. Some sectors, including medical devices and construction products, have their own rules. If your products are CE-marked for the EU, they can often be sold in Great Britain without re-marking, but the labelling and UK contact requirements still apply.
